Fireflywebandvideo.com is a San Francisco Bay Area-based web design and video production company. I, Josh Morsell, am the director and project manager for the company. I do most of Firefly's work myself, and when appropriate I work with skilled associates in the fields of computer programming, Flash, marketing, graphic design, book arts, videography, film, audio and photography.
I have been designing web pages professionally since 2000. I am skilled at HTML, XHTML, CSS, Photoshop, JavaScript, and I am competent at basic web promotion and digital photography. I can produce video and audio for the web. I am an excellent writer and copy editor with a formidable eye for grammar and punctuation. In conjunction with Firefly associates, I can make sophisticated use of Flash, PHP, and MySQL, set up your site for e-commerce, develop serious promotion campaigns, and produce world-class original graphics. I can carry your site from the initial idea to the final, professional product. I specialize in sites for small- and medium-sized businesses and non-profit organizations.
I began studying video and film production in 1995 as a student at Brown University. I worked as an intern on the Pixar/Disney film A Bug's Life, and later as an assistant to the award-winning documentary filmmaker John de Graaf. More recently, I was an assistant to Slovak- American filmmaker Oleg Harencar on his feature film Bloodlines. I also served as cameraman for the American portion of the documentary on the making of Bloodlines.
I have worked as a for-hire videographer since 2000. Independently and in conjunction with the Mendocino, California-based Prometheus Productions I have produced or helped to produce wedding videos, an instructional video on parachute games for the company New Games, and a video promoting the stone and water sculptures of Franz Arner and Cherie Christiansen. I have contributed footage to a number of independent documentaries and art films. In 2001-2002, I edited the video footage shown as trial evidence by the plaintiffs in environmental activist Judi Bari's ground-breaking civil rights lawsuit against the FBI and Oakland police. In 2004, I edited footage shown as trial evidence by environmental activists suing Humboldt County police for excessive force with pepper spray.
I own a broadcast-quality Sony PD-150 digital video camera.
I have designed posters, flyers, invitations, CD covers and a book cover; I have written and edited copy for print and web projects; and I have mixed down the sound for a hypnotherapy relaxation CD. I am happy to take on a variety of projects.
I am a web designer, videographer and writer based both in the San Francisco Bay Area and Mendocino, California.
I graduated from Brown University in 1998 with Honors in Art/Semiotics.
